The TEAMS ’17 Conference & Expo—the world’s leading conference and expo for the sports-event industry— kept attendees on the cutting edge of industry trends. Presented by Northstar Travel Group and hosted by Visit Orlando, TEAMS ’17 was held in Orlando October 30–November 2.

“We offered a variety of unique programming on the agenda—including the addition of the eSportsTravel Summit—this year at TEAMS ’17,” said Timothy Schneider, founder and chairman of the Sports Division of Northstar Travel Group. “We enjoyed welcoming TEAMS attendees to Orlando and providing them the latest in sports-specific content as well as access to industry experts.”

The TEAMS Expo opened, followed by a Super Session on the Digitalization of Sports. Additional sessions featured tracks on media and marketing, host cities, and facilities and event operations. Networking continued at the Late-Night Lounge.

Attendees toured the ESPN Wide World of Sports and the Orange County Convention Center. Concurrent sessions included the first of the eSportsTravel Summit. Rounding out the programming was the presentation of the SportsTravelAwards.

The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes provided a stunning backdrop for the TEAMS 13th Annual Golf Tournament. Attendees enjoyed 18 holes of golf as well as putting contests, a post-tournament happy hour and a prize awards presentation.

The TEAMS ’18 Conference + Expo will be held Oct. 1–4, 2018, at the Kentucky International Convention Center, which will reopen in 2018 following a multimillion-dollar expansion and renovation project.

Presented by SportsTravel and hosted by the Atlantic City Sports Commission and Meet AC, TEAMS ’16 was held at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City, September 26–29.

Attendees swayed to the sounds of the legendary R&B vocal group The Drifters, who kicked off Wednesday’s Super Session by performing some of their biggest hits—including the fitting “Under the Boardwalk.” After an update on LA 2024’s bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games, a panel of Olympians took to the stage to discuss how event organizers can help enhance the athlete experience.

Following an afternoon of 12 Concurrent Sessions, attendees refueled with drinks and snacks at the Fourth Quarter Happy Hour before enjoying an open evening in Atlantic City. The all-female, alt-country group Antigone Rising performed at the Late-Night Lounge, which provided another opportunity to network.

New to the TEAMS Conference & Expo this year, Super Session #1 served as a welcome to Atlantic City with a proclamation letter from Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian declaring it TEAMS Day. A panel discussion provided insights into the phenomenal growth of eSports and how event organizers can take advantage of untapped opportunities. The session concluded with an inspirational keynote from the founder of Spartan Race, Joe De Sena, who encouraged attendees to reach beyond their comfort zones. Additional educational opportunities included concurrent sessions on how to use data effectively and ways to develop unique sponsor activations. The TEAMS Expo Happy Hour provided an opportunity to network in a relaxing, unstructured setting.

An evening gala event honored the winners of the SportsTravel Awards, which celebrates excellence in sports-event management and production. The awards ceremony featured the newly crowned Miss America as presenter and a musical performance by the Emmy Award–winning Tonic Sol-fa. The 2016 NBA Finals in Oakland, California, and Cleveland, Ohio took the top honor, winning Sports Event of the Year, as well as Best Professional Event Series or Circuit. The celebration continued at the SportsTravel Awards After-Party at the The Pool After Dark at Harrah’s, where DJ Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa provided lively entertainment.

It was a beautiful day for golf at the prestigious Stockton Seaview Golf Club. Clear blue skies and panoramic views of the Atlantic City skyline served as the perfect backdrop for the 12th Annual Golf Tournament, sponsored by Charlotte’s got a lot. Golfers enjoyed on-course contests including a putting competition, a breakfast buffet, a post-tournament happy hour and a prize awards presentation.

TEAMS ’16, September 26–29 in Atlantic City, featured six tracks of sports-specific educational programming on event operations, technology, sponsorship, law and ethics, host cities, and a CEO roundtable. The 11th Annual TEAMS Golf Tournament was played at the prestigious TPC Las Vegas, home to PGA Tour and Champions Tour events, and was an afternoon of quality face-to-face time with TEAMS attendees.

TEAMS ’16, the world’s leading conference and expo for the sports-event industry, will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The announcement was made at Harrah’s Atlantic City during a press conference organized by Meet AC, the Atlantic City Sports Commission and Caesars Entertainment. TEAMS ’16 will be held September 26–29, 2016, at the new $125 million, 100,000-square-foot Waterfront Conference Center, which will open in August.
